The Indoor portion of the Henry Ford's Museum was awesome! It was filled with Ford cars that many different stars had owned at one time. Sydney and Alexa enjoyed playing around in Hannah Montana's car, while the boys were playing guitar hero with a pretend audience behind them. The Oscar Myer Wiener Hot dog car was cute!

Fishing at Grandma and Grandpa's apartment

One of the highlights of the trip, was the lake that was just steps from my parents back door of their apartment. Our nightly routine was fishing. The kids would fish, get the poles all tangled up, and my Dad would spend hours fixing the poles. It was great for Steve and I, but my Dad probably didn't think it was as fun! It sure kept the kids busy! They caught 37 fish in all. They threw back every one of them, but the thrill of reeling them in kept them wanting to fish even more.

Outdoor portion of Henry Ford's Museum

While in Detroit we went to the Henry Ford's Museum. There was so much to see that it took us two days to go through it. The first day we went through the outdoor portion. They had old Ford Model T cars, trains, and carriages pulled by horses. We rode in all of them! They also had different outdoor games from the time period of Henry Ford. The kids enjoyed pitching bean bags into a small hole, and playing baseball with wood bats. We saw the home where Henry Ford grew up, and the shop where the Wright Brothers built their first airplane. One interesting fact we learned while being there was that Henry Ford and Thomas Edison were childhood friends. They lived near each other and their families would vacation together. It was very interesting!

During our stay in Detroit we went to the Detroit Tigers stadium. They didn't have a home game while we were there, so we just visited the stadium. We also went to the Employment Resource Center where my parents are currently serving on their mission. We met the nice people my parents serve with. They told us how much they love my parents, and how excited they are to be working with them.

Ten Day Trip to Michigan

We just got back from a ten day trip to Michigan. We flew the whole family out to Detroit to visit my parents. They are serving an 18 month mission there. We had a great time! All five kids in the airport was like watching a circus act! We had people counting all the kids, looking at me, and then saying God Be With You for having 6 children. It was quite funny! All the kids did great on the flight. The hardest part was getting all of our luggage onto the plane. We flew in on Saturday night the 13th of June. My parents met us at the airport where we rented a car for them, and used their Navigator for our family. It worked out quite well. The next day we got up and went to church in Detroit. It was definitely an experience. They gave talks in both Spanish and English. They had translators, so we wore headsets during the Spanish talks. After church we drove 15 minutes into Windsor Canada. We went through the border where they checked our passports and all the birth certificates of our children. We went to a park and had a picnic. The kids had a blast climbing the big trees in the park. An air show was going on that day, so we watched for a while. It is interesting that you can see Detroit right across the river from Canada. It is Detroit you see in the back ground of the picture of our whole family.

Conner's Presidential Award

Conner was the only 4th grader at his school to receive the Presidential Award for fitness. This award was signed by President Obama. He was called up with a few other 5th graders to receive this award. In order to qualify for this award, participants must be able to do five different events in a particular time, or a certain amount. For his age group these events included 45 curl-ups in one minute, Shuttle run in 10.3 seconds, 30 sit and reach, one mile in 7 minutes and 57 seconds, and 6 pull-ups.) Conner works very hard to do his best in every area of his life. It is exciting to see him set goals, and then reach them.

Girls Day Out!

Sydney and I ventured to Mesquite for a girls day out! I had a pedicure, and she had her fingers and toes painted. She loves to be pampered! When we got home, she ran in the house to show off her beautiful paint job to her brothers and Dad.
