Derek turned 9 on October 13th. We took Donuts into his school class on his actual birthday. The Friday following his birthday, he invited 16 kids over from 6-10 PM for a late night party. The kids pretty much played football in the backyard the whole time. Derek decided to break the teams up skins against the shirts. It was quite funny to see all these boys playing outside in the cold weather without shirts on. Instead of having a cake for his birthday, he chose homemade butterscotch and banana cream pies. It is so nice not to have to plan games for birthday parties. At this age they just entertain themselves. Derek is so much fun to be around. He is so mature for his age! He is always cracking us up with his humor. We love him so much, and are so happy he is in our family.
